When an overseas applicant needs an Indian DSC

  • Setting up an Indian company or subsidiary. Foreign directors and foreign subscribers sign the SPICe+ incorporation forms, MoA and AoA with a DSC.
  • Director Identification Number (DIN) and DIR-3 KYC. Every foreign or NRI director of an Indian company needs a valid DSC.
  • LLP designated partners residing outside India, for LLP incorporation and annual filings.
  • Foreign company registration (branch, liaison or project office) and its annual filings with the ROC.
  • NRI income tax. Filing ITR for rent, capital gains on property sale, interest and dividends, and responding to notices.
  • Indian e-tenders by foreign bidders, and contracts or declarations required by Indian government bodies.
  • GST registration for non-resident taxable persons and OIDAR service providers.

How it works for overseas applicants

You send scans of your passport and address proof. Depending on your country, the copies are apostilled or attested by the Indian Embassy or High Commission. You complete a short video call and email and mobile OTP verification. Once approved, the certificate is loaded onto a token and couriered to you, usually within a week including transit.

NRI or foreign national: which DSC?

An Indian citizen living abroad applies as an NRI with an Indian passport. An OCI card holder or anyone holding a foreign passport applies as a foreign national. A foreign company takes a foreign organisation DSC in its authorised signatory's name. If you are unsure, tell us your situation and we will confirm before you pay.

Where a Class 3 DSC is used

One individual DSC can be registered on several portals. Organisation, combo and DGFT certificates are needed only where a portal asks for them.

Income Tax e-filing

ITR, tax audit report (Form 3CA/3CB-3CD), Form 15CB and responses to notices.

GST portal

Mandatory for companies and LLPs to sign GST registration, returns and refunds.

MCA / ROC

Incorporation, DIN, DIR-3 KYC, annual returns, financial statements and charge filings.

e-Tendering and GeM

CPPP and state e-procurement portals need a combo DSC to sign and encrypt bids.

DGFT and ICEGATE

IEC updates, licences and scheme claims on DGFT; customs registration on ICEGATE.

EPFO

Employer approvals, KYC of employees and PF transfer claims.

IP India

Trademark, patent and design filings by applicants and attorneys.

Documents and PDFs

Sign agreements, invoices, certificates and board papers with a verifiable signature.

How to get a DSC online

The same five steps apply whether you are in Dwarka or Dallas. Only the verification documents differ.

  1. Send your enquiry

Use the form or WhatsApp. We confirm the right DSC and exact price.

  2. Pay and share documents

Pay online. Upload PAN and Aadhaar, or passport and address proof.

  3. Verify by video

A short video call plus mobile and email OTP, done from your phone.

  4. Certificate issued

The Certifying Authority approves and the DSC is downloaded to the token.

  5. Token delivered

Collect in Dwarka, receive by courier in India, or by international courier.

Documents required for DSC

Keep these ready before verification. The exact list can vary slightly with the Certifying Authority, and we confirm it with your quote.

  • PAN card
  • Aadhaar (for paperless Aadhaar eKYC) or passport / voter ID / driving licence
  • Recent passport-size photo
  • Mobile number and email for OTP verification
  • Short video verification on your phone

Most Indian residents complete this paperless with Aadhaar or PAN based eKYC and get the DSC the same day.

DSC expiry and renewal checker

An expired DSC blocks ITR, GST and MCA filings on the last day. Enter when your certificate was issued to see when it expires.

The issue date is printed in your certificate details: open the token software or double-click the certificate in Windows.

Your expiry date and days remaining will appear here.

How to sign a PDF with your DSC

  1. Plug in the USB token and install its driver (ePass2003, HYP2003 or ProxKey). The token software shows your certificate.
  2. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader and choose Use a certificate, then Digitally sign.
  3. Draw the box where the signature should appear and select your DSC from the list.
  4. Enter the token PIN. Acrobat saves a signed copy that anyone can verify.

For government portals you install the portal's signer utility once: emSigner for GST and DGFT, and the DSC Signer Service for Income Tax. Then register the DSC on each portal. We guide you through the setup on a screen-share call.

How to verify a digital signature

Open the signed PDF and look at the signature panel. A green tick means the document has not changed since signing and the certificate chains to a trusted Indian root. A yellow warning usually means the root certificate of the Certifying Authority is not yet trusted on that computer.

Frequently asked questions about DSC

What is a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?

A Digital Signature Certificate is the electronic equivalent of your signature and identity proof. It is issued by a Certifying Authority licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and is stored on a secure USB crypto token. Documents and returns signed with a DSC are legally valid in India.

Which class of DSC do I need, Class 2 or Class 3?

Class 3. The CCA discontinued Class 2 DSC from 1 January 2021, so all new certificates, including those for GST, Income Tax, MCA, EPFO and e-tendering, are issued as Class 3. If someone offers you a Class 2 DSC today, it is not a current product.

What is the price of a Class 3 DSC in India?

For Indian residents, a Class 3 signing DSC with USB token starts from Rs 1,999 for 1 year, Rs 2,299 for 2 years and Rs 2,999 for 3 years. Combo (signing plus encryption) certificates cost more. NRI and foreign national DSCs are priced higher because of passport-based verification. Use the price calculator on this page for an instant estimate including GST and shipping.

Can an NRI get a DSC while living abroad?

Yes. An NRI can get a Class 3 DSC entirely online using an Indian passport, overseas address proof and a short video verification. The USB token is couriered to your overseas address or to a family member in India. The DSC can then be used for ITR filing, property sale compliance, company director filings, bank and demat work.

How can a foreign national or foreign director get an Indian DSC?

A foreign national applies for a Foreign National Class 3 DSC using a passport and a foreign address proof. Depending on the country, these documents are apostilled or attested by the Indian Embassy or High Commission. After a video verification, the certificate is issued and the token is shipped internationally. This DSC is used for DIN applications, company incorporation as a subscriber, MCA filings and other Indian government portals.

Do my documents need an apostille or embassy attestation?

For foreign applicants, yes. If your country is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention (for example the USA, UK, Australia, Germany, China and Russia), the passport and address proof copies are apostilled. For countries outside the Convention, they are notarised and attested by the Indian Embassy or High Commission. Use the country checker on this page, and we will confirm the route before you spend on attestation.

How long does it take to get a DSC?

For Indian residents with Aadhaar or PAN based verification, the DSC is usually issued the same day, often within an hour of video verification. For NRIs and foreign nationals, issuance normally takes 1 to 3 working days after correct documents are received, plus courier time for the token.

Is a USB token mandatory for a DSC?

Yes. A Class 3 DSC has to be stored on a FIPS certified USB crypto token such as ePass2003, HYP2003 or ProxKey. If you already have a compatible token, a new or renewed certificate can be downloaded onto it and you do not need to buy another.

What is the difference between a signing DSC and a combo DSC?

A signing DSC is used to sign documents, returns and forms. A combo DSC has two certificates on the same token: one for signing and one for encryption. The encryption certificate is required by e-tender and e-procurement portals to encrypt bid documents, and by some portals like NSWS.

Which DSC is needed for e-tendering?

Most government e-procurement portals, including the Central Public Procurement Portal (CPPP) and state portals, need a Class 3 combo DSC (signing plus encryption). Bidders usually take it in the name of the authorised person of the organisation.

What is a DGFT DSC?

A DGFT DSC is a Class 3 organisation certificate linked to your Importer Exporter Code (IEC). It is used by importers and exporters on the DGFT portal for applications such as IEC updates, licences and scheme benefits.

Can I use one DSC for GST, Income Tax, MCA and EPFO?

Yes. A single Class 3 individual signing DSC can be registered on the GST portal, the Income Tax e-filing portal, the MCA portal and EPFO. You register the same token separately on each portal.

What is the difference between a DSC and Aadhaar eSign?

Aadhaar eSign is a one-time online signature authenticated through an OTP to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. A DSC is a certificate on a USB token that you can use repeatedly for its validity period. Many portals, including MCA and e-tendering, accept only a DSC. Aadhaar eSign is also not available to foreign nationals.

How do I renew my DSC?

A DSC cannot be extended; a renewal is a fresh certificate issued on your existing token. You can apply before or after expiry. Renewal is cheaper because you reuse the token, and the process is the same short online verification.

Can I get a DSC near me in Dwarka or Delhi NCR?

Yes. Our office is at T3 & T4, Manish Twin Plaza, Plot No 3, Sector 4, Dwarka, New Delhi 110078. Clients within about 25 km, including Janakpuri, Uttam Nagar, Palam, Najafgarh, Vasant Kunj, Mahipalpur and Gurugram, can collect the token the same day. The rest of India and overseas clients complete everything online.

How do I sign a PDF with my DSC?

Insert the USB token, open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader, choose Use a certificate and then Digitally sign, draw the signature box and select your DSC. Enter the token password to sign. For portals such as GST, Income Tax and DGFT, you install the portal's signer utility (for example emSigner or the DSC Signer Service) once and it signs automatically.

What happens if I lose my DSC token?

Inform us immediately so the certificate can be revoked through the Certifying Authority. You then apply for a fresh DSC. A token without its password cannot be used, but revocation protects you from misuse.

Do you deliver DSC tokens outside India?

Yes. We ship tokens by international courier to the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, the UAE, Singapore, Uganda, China, Russia and other countries, or deliver them to your representative in India.
