The Income Tax Department has given a big gift to the taxpayers before Diwali. The Income Tax Department has so far issued a refund of Rs 1.29 lakh crore to taxpayers. This year’s Diwali of Taxpayers has become spectacular with this amount received before Diwali.
Nearly 40 lakh taxpayers get refund
According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), over 39.49 lakh taxpayers have been issued refunds of over Rs 1,29,190 crore till November 3 in this financial year. During this period, personal income tax refund of Rs 34,820 crore has been given to 37.55 lakh taxpayers and company tax refund of Rs 94,370 crore to more than 1.93 lakh taxpayers.

Check whether a tax refund was received or not
Method number 1
- First go to https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html
- Write the PAN number and the year for which the refund is due
- Given a captcha code at the bottom, fill it
- After this, refund status will come as soon as you click on Proceed button
Taxpayers can also check their tax refund by visiting the income tax portal website.
Method number 2
- First go to the website www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
- Login by entering PAN, password and captcha code
- After this click on ‘Review Returns / Forms’
- An option will come click on ‘Income Tax Return’
- Click on the assessment year for which you want to check your income tax refund status.
- After this click on your Acknowledgment Number (Hyper Link)
- A pop-up will open on your screen, which will show the timeline of filing returns.
- It will also have written about the release of your refund with many details
Understand tax refund
he company you work in, the company pays you salary throughout the year, deducts an estimated part of the tax from that salary and submits the income to the tax department. You file an income tax return at the end of the year, in which it tells you how much you owe as tax. If the company has deducted more tax from your actual liability and deposited it to the Income Tax Department, then the IT department returns the remaining amount to you. This is the tax refund.
ITR filling period increased again
In view of the corona epidemic, the Income Tax Department has extended the last date for filing income tax returns till December 31. Those who do not have to submit an audit report along with their returns, that is, people like us, can submit their returns for December 2019-20 by 31 December. The last date for this was fixed on 30 November 2020.
