Which ISO certification does your business need?

Buying the wrong standard is the most common and most expensive mistake. Pick your industry and the reason you need ISO, and see the standards to get, what each costs, and why.

Who gets the most from ISO certification

ISO pays for itself fastest when a certificate is the difference between being allowed to bid or supply, and being rejected at the first step.

MSMEs bidding for government tenders

Central and state departments, PSUs, railways and GeM buyers often make an accredited ISO certificate an eligibility condition or award marks for it.

ISO 9001, plus 14001 and 45001 for works contracts

Exporters and importers

Foreign buyers run supplier audits. An IAF-recognised certificate shortens them and keeps you on approved vendor lists in the EU, UK, US and Gulf.

ISO 9001, 14001; FSSC 22000, 13485 or CE by sector

IT, SaaS and BPO companies

Overseas clients and banks ask for proof of information security before sharing data. ISO 27001 replaces pages of security questionnaires.

ISO 27001, 27701, 20000-1

Contractors and EPC firms

CPWD, NHAI, metro and state PWD bids regularly ask for quality, environment and safety certificates together.

Integrated ISO 9001 + 14001 + 45001

Food businesses

Processors supplying retail chains, HoReCa and export markets are asked for a certified food safety system on top of the FSSAI licence.

HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000

Manufacturers supplying OEMs

Auto, electrical and engineering OEMs require certified suppliers and audit them against it every year.

ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 50001

ISO standards we certify, with starting prices

Prices are starting prices for a micro business (up to 10 employees, one site) with an IAF-accredited certification body, including documentation support. GST is extra. Your exact fee depends on headcount, sites and scope.

ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026: what changes for you

ISO published ISO 9001:2026 on 16 September 2026, and ISO 14001:2026 on 15 April 2026. Both replace their 2015 editions, keep the same clause structure, and give certified businesses a transition period of about three years.

The ISO 9001 changes are targeted, not a rewrite. Top management must now promote a quality culture and ethical behaviour. Risks and opportunities are addressed separately. Planning of changes carries more weight, and climate change is part of understanding the organisation's context.

If you are getting certified for the first time, do not wait. Certification bodies need their accreditation extended before they can issue accredited 2026 certificates, so many will certify you to the 2015 edition now and move you to 2026 at a later audit. We build your documents to the 2026 requirements from day one, so the transition costs you nothing extra.

If you already hold a certificate, the cheapest time to transition is your next recertification audit, provided it falls before the deadline. Use the planner to check.

Is your ISO certificate genuine? Check in one minute

Cheap "ISO certificates" issued without an audit, by bodies accredited by organisations outside the IAF, get bids rejected and buyers walking away. Answer six questions about a certificate you hold or have been offered.

Can the certificate be found on IAF CertSearch (iafcertsearch.org)?

Is the accreditation body on it (for example NABCB, UKAS, ANAB) a member of the IAF?

Did an auditor actually audit your business, on site or by video, before it was issued?

Does the scope on the certificate match what your business really does?

Were surveillance audits scheduled for year one and year two?

Is the certificate less than three years old, or renewed?

Your result appears here as you answer.

ISO certification process, step by step

The same six steps apply to every management system standard. A micro business with records in place can finish in two to four weeks.

  1. Scope and quote

We confirm the standard, sites and scope, and choose an accredited body that fits your tender or buyer.

  2. Gap analysis

We compare how you work today with the standard and list what is missing.

  3. Documents and training

Manual, procedures, formats and records prepared; your team trained to use them.

  4. Internal audit

An internal audit and management review show the system is working.

  5. Stage 1 and Stage 2 audit

The certification body reviews documents, then audits on site or remotely.

  6. Certificate and upkeep

Certificate issued for three years, with yearly surveillance audits we help you pass.

Documents required for ISO certification

Start with the common list. Some standards need a few extra records, shown in their tabs.

  • GST certificate and PAN of the business
  • Udyam (MSME) certificate, if registered
  • Certificate of incorporation, partnership deed or proprietorship proof
  • Address proof of each site: rent agreement or electricity bill
  • List of products or services to be covered (the certificate scope)
  • Number of employees, shifts and sites
  • Company letterhead and logo (for the manual and certificate)

We prepare the quality manual, procedures, formats and records from these. Most small businesses have everything on this list already.

What ISO certification does for a growing business

For most MSMEs the first benefit is access: tenders, GeM categories, PSU vendor registrations and export buyer approvals that are closed without a certificate. The second is cost. A documented system cuts rework, customer complaints and dependence on one or two key people, because the way work is done is written down and checked.

It also changes how buyers see you. An accredited certificate on your quotation, website and GeM profile tells a purchase officer or an overseas buyer that an independent auditor has checked your business and will keep checking it every year.

MSME reimbursement for ISO certification

The Ministry of MSME has run a scheme that reimburses 75% of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and HACCP certification expenses, up to Rs 75,000, as a one-time benefit to Udyam-registered micro and small enterprises. Several states, including Tamil Nadu, run their own quality-certification schemes with higher limits for international certifications.

Scheme windows and procedures change, and claims are only accepted for certificates from recognised, accredited bodies. We check the scheme currently open for your state before you certify, and prepare the claim file afterwards.

ISO certification: frequently asked questions

What is ISO certification?

ISO certification is a certificate issued by an independent certification body after it audits your business against an ISO standard, such as ISO 9001 for quality or ISO 27001 for information security. It shows customers, tender committees and overseas buyers that you run your work through a documented, audited system. The certificate is valid for three years, with a surveillance audit every year.

Does ISO itself issue ISO certificates?

No. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) writes the standards but does not certify anyone. Certificates are issued by certification bodies. For the certificate to carry weight, the certification body should be accredited by an accreditation body that is a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), such as NABCB in India.

What is the latest version of ISO 9001?

ISO 9001:2026, published by ISO on 16 September 2026, replaced ISO 9001:2015. Existing ISO 9001:2015 certificates remain valid during a transition period expected to run for about three years, to around September 2029. The changes are limited: quality culture and ethical behaviour, risks and opportunities handled separately, and climate change within the context of the organisation. Certification bodies need their accreditation extended before issuing accredited 2026 certificates, so many new applicants will certify to 2015 now and transition later.

Has ISO 14001 also changed?

Yes. ISO 14001:2026 was published on 15 April 2026. Organisations holding ISO 14001:2015 certificates have a three-year transition period, to around April 2029, to move to the new edition, usually at a surveillance or recertification audit.

What is the cost of ISO certification in India?

For a micro business with up to 10 employees at one site, ISO 9001 starts from about Rs 9,999 plus GST with an IAF-accredited certification body. The cost rises with employee count, number of sites, the standard chosen and whether you need a NABCB-accredited body. Remember to budget for annual surveillance audits in years two and three. The calculator on this page shows the full three-year cost.

How long does it take to get ISO certified?

A small business with ready documents can complete ISO 9001 in about 2 to 4 weeks: documentation, implementation, internal audit, then the Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits. Larger organisations and standards such as ISO 27001 or ISO 13485 usually take 2 to 4 months, because records must show the system actually running.

How long is an ISO certificate valid?

Three years. The certification body carries out a surveillance audit in the first and second year. Before the third year ends, a recertification audit renews the certificate for another three years. If a surveillance audit is missed, the certificate can be suspended.

Which ISO certificate is required for government tenders?

Most tenders ask for ISO 9001. Construction, EPC, facility and security tenders often also ask for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Many departments and PSUs accept only certificates from accredited certification bodies, and some specifically ask for NABCB accreditation. Always check the eligibility clause of the tender before choosing a body.

What is the difference between NABCB and IAF accreditation?

NABCB (National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies, under the Quality Council of India) is India's accreditation body and a signatory of the IAF agreement. A certificate from a NABCB-accredited body is recognised by all IAF members worldwide. Bodies accredited by other IAF-member accreditation bodies, such as UKAS or ANAB, are also IAF-recognised. A certificate from a body accredited by an organisation outside IAF is not internationally recognised.

How do I verify if an ISO certificate is genuine?

Search the company name or certificate number on IAF CertSearch (iafcertsearch.org), the global database of accredited certificates. You can also check the certification body's own website and confirm that its accreditation body is an IAF member. A certificate that cannot be found in either place should not be relied upon for tenders or export buyers.

Is there a government subsidy for ISO certification for MSMEs?

The Ministry of MSME has run a scheme that reimburses 75% of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and HACCP certification expenses, up to Rs 75,000, as a one-time benefit to Udyam-registered micro and small enterprises. Several states run their own quality-certification schemes. Availability and application windows change, so we check your eligibility before you apply.

Who needs ISO 27001 and what does it cost?

ISO 27001 is the information security standard. IT, SaaS, BPO, fintech and any business handling client data are often asked for it by foreign clients, banks and large corporates. It needs risk assessment, security controls and records of them working, so it costs more than ISO 9001: typically from about Rs 59,999 plus GST for a small firm, rising with headcount and scope.

What is the difference between HACCP, ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000?

HACCP is a food-hazard control system and suits small kitchens and food units. ISO 22000 is a full food safety management system for the whole business. FSSC 22000 adds extra requirements on top of ISO 22000 and is recognised by GFSI, so global retailers and FMCG brands ask for it. None of these replaces your FSSAI licence.

Is ISO 17025 a certification?

No. ISO/IEC 17025 is the standard for testing and calibration laboratories, and labs are accredited to it by NABL in India, not certified by a certification body. We can guide labs on the NABL accreditation process.

Can a proprietorship, startup or small shop get ISO certified?

Yes. ISO standards apply to organisations of any size. A proprietorship or startup with a few employees can be certified to ISO 9001, and the audit time and cost are lower for smaller teams. Individuals cannot hold ISO 9001 personally; they can train as internal or lead auditors instead.

Can the audit be done online?

Parts of the audit can be done remotely where the certification body's rules and IAF guidance allow, especially document review in Stage 1 and service businesses with no production floor. Manufacturing and construction sites usually need an on-site Stage 2 audit.

Can one company hold multiple ISO certificates?

Yes, and it is cheaper to combine them. An integrated audit of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 shares one set of documents and one audit team, so the total cost is much lower than three separate certifications.

Do you serve businesses outside Delhi?

Yes. Our office is in Dwarka, New Delhi, and we serve businesses within about 25 km in person. Clients in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Patna, Lucknow, Chandigarh and the rest of India work with us online, with on-site audits arranged locally by the certification body.

Tender or buyer deadline coming up?
