Taxpayers need to update their profile to get accurate prefilled income tax on new income tax portal

The Income Tax Department has launched its new portal e-filing 2.0 on Monday. Which is more user friendly than before, taxpayers themselves can easily file their tax returns, check refund status as well as make tax payments.

Taxpayers update their personal details

The Income Tax Department has asked the taxpayers to re-register their DSC immediately by visiting the new portal www.incometax.gov.in. Apart from this, update your personal mobile number and e-mail ID by going to ‘primary contact‘.

Different categories of taxpayers

In the new website of Income Tax, the category of each taxpayer has been given separately. For example, there is a separate category for Individual, there is a separate category for Company, Non-Company and Tax Professionals. For taxpayers, its drop down menu contains instructions regarding ITR filing, refund status and tax slab.

Easy to understand e-portal

There are more than 846 crore individual registered users on the e-filing portal. For the assessment year 2020-21 (FY 2019-20), more than 3.13 crore ITRs are e-verified. New portal also has user manuals, FAQs and videos, which will make it easier for taxpayers to understand the website. Apart from this, chatbot and helpline numbers have also been given.

When a registered user opens the e-portal, he gets the option of a tour guide in front of him, so that he can understand the website. Then you get the option of update profile, if there is any complaint then its option is also visible. The second option on the left side of the e-portal is for Individual / HUF, on the drop down, you get many options, including Salary, Business / Profession, Senior / Super Senior Citizen, Non Resident and HUF options are available.

Update Profile for Pre-filed ITRs

Once a registered user logs in to this e-portal, many details appear in front of him on the dashboard. You will also find e-Proceedings, Response to Outstanding Demand and Annual Statement under pending actions tab. The portal also tells you which details are yet to be filled by taxpayer so that his profile can be completed. The IT department has asked the taxpayers to update their profiles so that they get accurate pre-filed ITRs. Which will also enhance their experience. Soon, apart from the portal, a mobile app will also be provided to the taxpayers, which will have all these services.
