Some of these are automatic, some need a separate application, and a few are worth more than people expect. Filter by what you are after.
Priority sector lending
Bank lending to a registered micro or small enterprise counts towards the bank's priority sector target under Reserve Bank of India norms. This is the quiet reason an MSME file moves faster than an unregistered one at the same branch.
Collateral-free credit under CGTMSE
Guarantee cover for micro and small enterprises was raised to ₹10 crore with effect from 1 April 2025, with an enhanced facility for exporter term loans. The guarantee protects the lender; you still owe the loan, but the security demand comes down sharply.
Credit card for micro units
A customised credit facility of ₹5 lakh was announced for micro enterprises registered on the Udyam portal — the registration is the eligibility gate.
Mudra and state schemes
Mudra lending, Delhi government industrial support and state subsidy schemes almost all read the Udyam number as the identifier of an eligible unit.
The 45-day payment rule
Section 15 of the MSMED Act requires a buyer to pay a registered micro or small supplier within the agreed period, which cannot exceed 45 days from the day of acceptance — and within 15 days where there is no written agreement.
Interest at three times the bank rate
Section 16 gives compound interest with monthly rests at three times the bank rate notified by the Reserve Bank of India, running from the appointed day. It is payable whether or not you asked for it in the invoice. Work out the figure.
Pressure from the buyer's own tax position
A buyer who pays a micro or small supplier late loses the deduction for that expense in the year it was incurred — Section 43B(h) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, carried forward into Section 37 of the Income-tax Act, 2025. Your registration is what brings the buyer inside that rule.
MSME Samadhaan
A claim can be filed online against a defaulting buyer before the Micro and Small Enterprise Facilitation Council. Buyers who are companies must also disclose dues outstanding beyond 45 days in half-yearly Form MSME-1 with the Registrar of Companies.
Public procurement reservation
Central ministries, departments and public sector undertakings must source at least 25% of their annual procurement from micro and small enterprises, with 4% reserved for units owned by SC/ST entrepreneurs and 3% for women-owned units.
Tender fee and earnest money
Micro and small enterprises are exempt from tender document cost and from earnest money deposit in central government tenders — often the single biggest cash saving for a small contractor bidding regularly.
GeM seller status
The Government e-Marketplace reads the Udyam number to mark a seller as an MSE, which is what makes the reserved procurement share reachable. This is where the NIC code you chose starts to matter. GeM registration.
TReDS bill discounting
Registered suppliers can discount invoices raised on large buyers through a TReDS platform and convert a 60-day receivable into cash now.
ZED, Lean and quality certification
Ministry of MSME schemes subsidise certification and productivity programmes for registered units, with higher support for micro enterprises and for women-owned units.
Intellectual property support
Reimbursement of a share of patent, trademark and geographical indication costs is available to registered enterprises under the MSME innovation schemes. Trademark filing.
Technology and capital subsidy
Credit-linked capital subsidy for technology upgradation, and support for barcoding, energy audits and participation in trade fairs, all run off the Udyam registration.
State-level concessions
Electricity duty concessions, stamp duty relief and industrial plot allotments under state industrial policy are extended to registered units. In Delhi these run through the industries department and DSIIDC.
What it does not get you
Udyam registration is not a trade licence, not a GST registration, not an import-export code and not a factory licence. It also does not create a tax exemption. Traders registered on Udyam get priority sector lending treatment but not the full suite of ministry schemes.
